Spacious Words Project

Spacious Words is the ongoing publishing and translation effort within the Spacious Mind Center.

Our Translators:

Amy Lam: Amy was born in Hong Kong and graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Economics and holds a Master degree in Business from Purdue University. Amy has translated numerous Buddhist texts and worked as a member of the translation department at Hsi Lai Buddhist Temple. She and Madelon have been colleagues for over five years and have just recently finished their first co-translation of the Platform Sutra.

Madelon Wheeler-Gibb:  Madelon is a native Californian who began her studies of classical Chinese while living and teaching at Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Taiwan. She is the co-translator, with Audrey Her, of the Medicine Buddha Sutra and a collection of Ch'an koans, both published by Buddha's Light Press.

Translation in Progress

Amy and Madelon have just completed a two-year effort to translate the Platform Sutra of Hui Neng from Chinese to English. Done under the aegis of Buddha's Light Press at Hsi Lai Temple, the translation is slated for publication in 2003.

Their next efforts in translation will be directed at the Diamond Sutra and commentary by Hui Neng, slated to begin in the fall of 2002.
